Yesterday, I was deep into my studies, listening to the birds outside and the sounds of the village life when I got an article sent to me from a long time love client. The article spoke on the dangers of the chemicals contained in synthetic hair. This information isn't new, by any means, but it is resurfacing and deserves to be addressed, for the safety of US.
Over my years of servicing your crowns, I have had a number of clients who were allergic to synthetic hair, well, the chemicals used in synthetic hair. It has been proven that many of the popular synthetic hair brands contain chemicals that cause reactions such as rashes, swelling, and redness, to name a few of the more mild reactions.
DERMAL ABSORPTION: Dermal is Skin. So lets talk about skin absorption, this is key in this discussion of chemicals on our scalp, aka our crown. Dermal absorption is when a chemical goes through the skin and travels into the body, once in the body, toxic substances can enter the blood stream. Although we are speaking specifically of your crown and its absorption via the scalp, I as your crown worker must also consider the dermal absorption of toxicities via my hands/fingers. As a naturalist, an herbalist, a natural hair specialist this subject requires serious attention and a revision in my services, to ensure you receive only the best.
THE CHEMICALS: Many synthetic brands contain Benzene. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, Benzene can cause cancer in humans and has been linked to acute myeloid leukemia! It has been proven through testing that many brands also contain unsafe levels of Lead. Lead can be absorbed through the skin and can result in kidney damage, damage to the nervous system, reproductive damage, and sometimes brain damage. Consumer reports show many popular brands of synthetic hair contain Carcinogens = cancer causing agents.
WHAT ARE YOUR OPTIONS:
Don't Add Hair to your Hair: Now, as your Natural Hair Specialist, this is my favorite option, ESPECIALLY, since I WILL GROW THAT HAIR! So many are uncomfortable with the hair that grows from their scalp, whether it be too thin, too course, too short, too loose, too tight ~ listen I have heard it all and the list goes on and on. I encourage you to embrace your natural hair. You've heard the saying "the grass is greener on the other side of the fence" - "comparison is the thief of joy" - "the grass you water and nurture is the grass that flourishes" <<<< I may have revised that last one lol. The point is this, your hair is yours alone, give your hair, your scalp, your crown the love and attention it needs. Stop comparing your hair to anyone else's, these days we are bombarded with access to the lives of strangers via social media and I encourage you to eliminate these outside influences. Focus on your grass. Learn your hair, learn its likes and dislikes, learn how to love your own hair and watch how it grows for you! If you need help I have a Natural Hair Survival Guide eBook you can download ~ here is the link: https://www.soulflowernaturals.com/product-page/the-natural-hair-survival-guide OR of course book your next appointment with me https://www.soulflowernaturals.com/search?q=services
Chemical Free Options: YES! There are chemical free options if you like adding to your hair. The one I find most intriguing is Rebundle BraidBetter Hair, made from plant fibers; Banana Plant fibers to be exact. This option is all natural, non synthetic, non human as such it is gentle to the scalp. Freetress Brand has come out with a chemical free, residue free and hypo allergenic line called Clean Therapy braiding hair. And then we have Gaitlins Hair by Latched & Hooked Beauty a brand created by a stylist who noticed the need for chemical free hair for her clients.
Using Human Hair: OK are you ready for my views on this...I promise not to stand on a soap box lol. Hear this, your hair is the container for your vital essence. Hair is the container for ones vital essence. Hair collects the energetic imprints of our life. Hair holds the memories of our experiences. Hair is a reflection of ones identity, it is the connection to our roots. Seriously, take a moment now and meditate on this information. Are you feeling your own crown power? With this knowledge reflect on why big chops are so sacred and also powerful. Big Chops are more than a cut, they are a release ceremony. Big Chops honor a transition of release in your life, in your walk, in your journey. That being said, many places where human hair is shipped from is a part of a spiritual journey of another, its their release ~and then that persons memories and experiences are sold to another and implanted into their crown. That is some serious stuff! This also brings me to another subject of Loc Reattachment. As described earlier in this section, our hair holds the memories of our experiences. If your locs were cut off, this is ceremoniously releasing a past to consciously walk in the present. I encourage you to not look back, detach from your locs ~ give honor to your journey and allow the past to be buried or even burned. Honor your current walk, allow your crown to grow and collect your new energy, your new identity. OK maybe i did step on a soap box, someone help me down now .
Last and least: If you insist on wearing the chemical hair, there is a way to essentially "detox" the synthetic hair in an attempt to cleanse the chemicals from the hair. This detoxing was effective for the clients who were allergic to the the chemicals.
Your friendly reminder that I WILL GROW THAT HAIR
