I see it all over the internet, filling the shampoo bowl with water, tons of baking soda, some ACV (apple cider vinegar) and sometimes lemon/lime.
Let’s talk about it!

baking soda is known to neutralize acids, can restore ph balance and can purify by washing away sweat and oils. BUT baking soda can dry the hair and the number 1 rule to remember is: LOCS ARE HAIR. Baking soda leaves Locs compacted, dry, brittle.

ACV is known to remove build up, remove dirt, relieves the scalp from yeast, and restores Ph balance. AT THE SAME TIME its unblocking the hair follicles strengthens the follicles, it coats the hair shaft and closes the cuticles and promotes shine and growth.

lemon/lime: is known to cleanse with acids, fight fungus and gently reduces oil production. IT ALSO uses its vitamin c to strengthen the hair follicles and promote growth and gently exfoliates the scalp.
Based on the needs of our clients, we as stylists ~ actually as SPECIALISTS have the education to prescribe the correct treatment needed for their hair. Combining all three is overkill and all hair is not the same. I do not use baking soda at all on my Client’s. There are other very effective treatments that are also gentle to the hair/Loc itself. I use a proprietary blend to gently and effectively detox Locs when necessary. My base blend is then adjusted with special ingredients that fit into your hairs specific needs and into your specific intentions. It’s a natural hair EXPERIENCE✨

WHEN TO DETOX:
Detoxing should not be overdone. Loc detoxing is only necessary when there is a build up on the hair. Build up is most noticeable at the roots and appears as a white coating on the Loc.
Another sign you are in need of a detox is the weight of your Locs. If your Locs are beginning to feel very heavy, it’s a good time for a detox soak.
As a rule of thumb, I suggest a full detox seasonally. As the seasons change, it’s the perfect opportunity to deep clean. We do it for our homes and our wardrobes, we do it for our vehicles ~ how much more important to do it for our crown.
