Listen, I Am on a Journey Through Perimenopause, Menopause, and Beyond

Updated: Jul 8

I’m 53, and some of you may be right there with me – women of a certain age. Premenopause, perimenopause, menopause, and even post-menopause are either here or on the horizon. Let’s be honest: no one’s journey is the same.

If Aniya were here, I’d be ready to share all the highs and lows of this experience. You see, my mother tells me Nada about it! Lol. So, I’m here for all the real talk.

The Struggles We Face

Hair: The Struggle Is Real

If you’ve noticed more hair in the drain or if your crown isn’t as full as it used to be, you’re not alone. Thinning, loss, and changes in texture are all part of this ride. It’s frustrating when your hair seems to have its own agenda.

Body: A Whole New World

Night sweats, hot flashes, and unpredictable bleeding. My body is doing things I didn’t sign up for! I’m learning to ride the wave, but some days... I just want my old body back.

While I know my body is sexy and gorgeous, it’s the insides that are challenging. That’s the trade-off we’re managing.

Soul: The Mood Swings

Let’s not forget the emotional rollercoaster. One minute, I’m laughing, and the next, I’m crying for no reason at all. Mood swings are the real MVP of this chapter. Some days, I feel on top of the world; others, not so much.

But here’s the thing – we’re in this together. I want to hear your experiences. We don’t have to go through this alone. Sometimes, just knowing someone else gets it can make all the difference.

Herbs for Menopause Relief: Natural Helpers?

As we navigate through the shifts of menopause, I am a woman who turns to natural remedies. Here are a few of my current favorite herbs known to help ease the symptoms.

Fenugreek

This herb is well-known for its potential to support hormone balance. Some women swear by Fenugreek because it has been used to ease hot flashes and night sweats. It’s packed with phytoestrogens—plant compounds that mimic estrogen in the body. This helps manage those tricky symptoms.

Side Note: You may begin to smell like maple syrup (it tastes like it too). It can boost your sex drive, and you might notice your breasts becoming fuller. Sounds like a win-win to me!

Fennel

Fennel seeds are great for digestion. Believe it or not, they may also ease hot flashes, promote hormonal balance, and improve vaginal dryness. Additionally, fennel is often used to relieve bloating and improve overall gut health. This is a major bonus during the ups and downs of menopause.

Wild Yam

Wild yam is often touted for its potential to support hormonal health. It contains diosgenin, a compound known to help with hormone regulation. This remarkable herb is something to consider.

For those interested, contact me to add these herbs to your life! As an herbalist, I love using natural options to support my body through this transition. Have any of you tried these herbs? What has worked for you? Let me know your thoughts!

Remember, we’re all in this together! Embrace the journey, cherish the highs, and seek support during the lows. Here’s to navigating menopause with grace and humor.
